General Rules:

Color rules apply only to the first gem mined on a player’s turn, unless the color rules or cards say otherwise.

Players may not steal gems from another player’s capped spires. However, players may choose or be forced to unstack gems from their own capped spires to pay costs of cards or as a result of a card played by another player.

Gems which are drawn in excess of what will fit on a player’s tower are placed beside that player’s tower and are counted in that player’s final gem count.

To play a card, remove the gems matching the card’s cost from the top of your spires and place them on the card. All gems used for cost must be available on the top of a spire. Gems may be removed to pay costs in any order.
