Organized play changes for Magic in 2012

Many of you will have already seen this on “the mother ship”.

Big changes coming in year 2012.
Some bullet points:

The Pro Tour will become exclusive invite only events.

Regional Prereleases will end. (we’ll still have some of the largest prereleases around at Misty and Misty North though!)

MANY Grand Prix events will be added around the world.

At this time we believe that PTQs will be completely unaffected.

Head to the link above and read up!

Before anyone gets their hackles up over this, it seems to me to be nothing but win. I would expect with the larger number of GPs, we’ll see some smaller attendances, making them easier to handle/plan for. We’re currently hitting 1000-1200 in some pretty light markets. a few more will hopefully get this down into the 6-700 range a little more frequently. For Prereleases, we’ll hold them similar to what we have been for the time being. However, Misty Mountain North will be moving in the next 6 months, as our location in valley ridge mall is being eliminated for a new city project. Keep your eye out for information on the new location, which will hopefully be coming in the next several weeks to a month!

Regional Nationals Qualifier this weekend!

2 years ago we had Regionals.

Last year we had Nationals Qualifiers.

THIS year we have a Regional Nationals Qualifier!

Got it?

GOOD! National Qualifiers this year are broken into 2 different types of events over 3 weekends. April 16th, this Saturday, there are 17 National Qualifiers being held in regional locations around the country. Minneapolis is one of those places. The Regional Nats Qs are 8 slot qualifiers; the top 8 make Nationals. The following 2 weekends there will be 1 slot national Qualifiers all over the country in WPN Hobby stores. We’ll be hosting these 1 slot events in both Misty Mountain Locations as well!

Legion Events will host a Regional Nats Q at the Minneapolis Convention Center this year. We’re upstairs in Ballroom B. See you there!

Added: I was just informed that through priceline.com you can put in 3 1/2 star hotels for $45 and the Millenium hotel is accepting. Millenium is about the closest hotel to the venue.

Gunslingers at NPH Prerelease – Minneapolis

We’ve had a little trouble securing an artist, so we’re adding a second gunslinger to the Regional Prerelease at Misty Mountain North on May 7th!

We had already lined up Evan “The Magic Show” Erwin to come and battle you for packs… and now we’ve added The Innovator, Patrick Chapin to the mix!.

Come hang out with us and claim your share of the packs Evan and Patrick will be battling for!

Check out the new video Patrick posted this week… Jace, Jace, JACE!

PTQ this weekend, Parking alert!

Helllloooo Magic Players, and welcome to Madison, WI, the epicenter of Left Vs Right in American Politics right now. Perhaps you’ve heard about us on the news, but we’re hosting a bunch of protesters downtown Madison over the last few weeks. Our event venue for this PTQ is located downtown, a matter of a couple hundred yards from the Capital Square where all of these protests have been happening. there is a LARGE Protest planned for this weekend starting at noon. We advise you strongly that once you arrive on site that you leave your car in your parking lot and don’t move it till you leave for the day. If you move it, chances are, it wont be there as people swarm into the area late morning. It would be a good idea to plan on being at the event a LITTLE earlier than you normally would.

Again, we don’t expect this to impact parking right away in the morning, but it will very quickly start adding bodies and you may required to park far away and walk. Come early, stay late, enjoy hanging out playing magic in the middle of one of the largest political protests of our lifetimes 😀 You may also want to make sure you bring some portable snacks as with the large number of people downtown, restaurants/eateries are likely to be very busy.
