As it can be a little confusing the process in detail:

#GPDFW Refunds are complete

I have processed all cancellations I had marked for refunds. They should be in your paypal accounts already if you paid with available blanace, and if credited back to credit cards that may take a couple days to show on your card balances.

Please email me if you feel you should have gotten a refund and have not and I will make sure it was processed. Thank you all for your patience, it has been a long week.

#GPDFW refunds update

well after consolidating the check in sheets from the weekend (6 different sheets, transferred all check ins to 1 sheet) I have started processing refunds (at last!) it’s taking me approximately 3-4 minutes per refund at this point. get the cancel request, check to make sure that player did not check in on Friday to get the playmat/promo or play in the event on Saturday (beyond a round 1 no show drop, some are going to be IN the beginning of the event but never actually played). then go through a series of 6 pages on paypal after I’ve searched for the transaction id on gmail.

Why am I telling this to all of you?  So you can see it’s going to take a LONG time to get through these. event longer than I thought.  I think I have about 200 total to do. at 3 minutes each that’s 10 hours of work. It will take me well into tomorrow to get this done, assuming nothing else interrupts.

I really appreciate the patience (most of) you have shown so far. thanks! and just a little longer and I’ll get you the $$!!!

thanks!

Steve

#GPDFW Wrap up, Refunds, and thanks

#GPDFW is in the books.

First Order of business: cancellations and credits

Since many folks coming to this page are looking for information on their cancellations/refunds, I am beginning to process those tonight from the hotel where I am currently stranded near the DFW airport. I will get as many done today as I can, I hope to have them all completed by Wednesday.  Please be patient and I will get them all out and processed as quickly as I can!

Next up: How awesome you are

This event had an obviously rough start. We heard countless stories about massively long drives, missed flights, getting stuck in ditches and being helped by strangers… 1 story of someone who had their car totaled in an accident 🙁  I said in the player meeting how awed I am at the level of commitment so many players had to make this drive in this awful weather. People were streaming in at the last minute, or emailing their regrets for cancelaitons and refunds. so many of the cancellation requests came with a note along the lines of “I can’t tell you how sad I am to say I am not coming”.  When the weather was announced, we decided we’d stick it out and play for the people who were around and had come in to play. I’m very glad we did.

Everyone seemed to have a fantastic time. Lots of great stories shared with me, shared with my staff. Narrow misses, and amazing triumphs. It was a weekend like no other I can remember.

I’ve failed to get home at this point as my flight has been delayed, my staff have all made it out (the ones that made it to DFW in the first place, many didn’t). It’s pretty easy in my currently exhausted state to focus on the negative. how I can’t get home to my daughter, sleep in my own bed, take a couple days and just… relax from the past month and a half of crazy busy I’ve had. But I think instead I’ll focus on the stories that inspire me, and remind me why we all play this game and come together for these events.  For every story I heard this weekend about someone being a jerk and having an issue, I heard 15 about something awesome.

Thank you all for making this event great.

#GPDFW nearing end of friday

Today has been a busy, hectic day. Managing to find ways to get staff and judges on site. Helping players with travel issues and answering questions.. lots and lots of questions. I can’t recall when my phone rang so much on tournament day.  My wife Lindsey just posted a perfect summary on her facebook page:

“Cold, tired, and a bit stressed, but so uplifted by the positive attitudes of all the players and staff who have already made it to ‪#‎GPDFW‬, and so completely in awe of the great lengths so many more are going to in order to get here. To sleep now, but can’t wait to see our staff and head judge tomorrow who have all gone to extreme measures to be here by tomorrow. Love you guys!”

We are overwhelmed by the positive energy everyone is bringing and grateful to the players for sticking through this rough storm with us.  Roads will still be icy through the night and tomorrow so remember if you are driving, leave LOTS of extra time. Go as slow as you feel you need to. and get here in one piece please!  We can refund your entry, and while we all agree that GPs are awesome experiences, there will be another one to attend, and it’s not worth risking injury or worse to be here!

Registration is open on site until 12pm tonight (central time) there is NO registration on site tomorrow am, so if you ARE planning on coming, please register online. If you are unsure, REGISTER I can easily refund you if you don’t make it!  if you DO register and decide you can’t make it, follow these instructions for a cancellation and refund.

What to do if you want (or need) to cancel:

Please reply to your preregistration confirmation email from the preregistration site asking to cancel.  If you are going to cancel on your event, please do so before 8:30am on Saturday the 7th. I will process refunds as I am able.  Please do not cancel if you are not 100% sure you are going to skip the event.  If you have asked for a refund and do not see the refund by Wednesday Dec 11, please contact me for a follow up, I am going to be processing dozens of cancellations which are coming in through all sorts of methods and styles and it’s possible I could miss one! Help me by sending the registration email with a “please cancel” in the body.

Every one stay safe!

Weather update from GP DFW 6pm, Dec 5

It’s finally started that freezing rain they’ve promised us here in Fort Worth. It’s a few hours behind schedule at this point, so hopefully the storm isn’t as big as they expected and it gets over faster too!

Weather.com still shows that it will end by about 1pm tomorrow (Friday). We fully expect the roads to be in decent traveling condition in the greater DFW area by mid afternoon Friday. Then no more precipitation is expected through Saturday at least. The GP will be running as long as we have power, and the chances of losing power downtown are much less than the outer lying areas that depend on power lines which are not buried as they are here. I’ve looked at a few of the larger cities within 6-8 hours and most seem to be set to be done with the precipitation by early afternoon.  I highly encourage waiting to make the decision to cancel until your drive window is on you. A lot can change in 24-36 hours!

Thanks!

Still hoping to see most of you in Ft Worth!
