#GPDFW Wrap up, Refunds, and thanks

#GPDFW is in the books.

First Order of business: cancellations and credits

Since many folks coming to this page are looking for information on their cancellations/refunds, I am beginning to process those tonight from the hotel where I am currently stranded near the DFW airport. I will get as many done today as I can, I hope to have them all completed by Wednesday.  Please be patient and I will get them all out and processed as quickly as I can!

Next up: How awesome you are

This event had an obviously rough start. We heard countless stories about massively long drives, missed flights, getting stuck in ditches and being helped by strangers… 1 story of someone who had their car totaled in an accident 🙁  I said in the player meeting how awed I am at the level of commitment so many players had to make this drive in this awful weather. People were streaming in at the last minute, or emailing their regrets for cancelaitons and refunds. so many of the cancellation requests came with a note along the lines of “I can’t tell you how sad I am to say I am not coming”.  When the weather was announced, we decided we’d stick it out and play for the people who were around and had come in to play. I’m very glad we did.

Everyone seemed to have a fantastic time. Lots of great stories shared with me, shared with my staff. Narrow misses, and amazing triumphs. It was a weekend like no other I can remember.

I’ve failed to get home at this point as my flight has been delayed, my staff have all made it out (the ones that made it to DFW in the first place, many didn’t). It’s pretty easy in my currently exhausted state to focus on the negative. how I can’t get home to my daughter, sleep in my own bed, take a couple days and just… relax from the past month and a half of crazy busy I’ve had. But I think instead I’ll focus on the stories that inspire me, and remind me why we all play this game and come together for these events.  For every story I heard this weekend about someone being a jerk and having an issue, I heard 15 about something awesome.

Thank you all for making this event great.

#GPDFW nearing end of friday

Today has been a busy, hectic day. Managing to find ways to get staff and judges on site. Helping players with travel issues and answering questions.. lots and lots of questions. I can’t recall when my phone rang so much on tournament day.  My wife Lindsey just posted a perfect summary on her facebook page:

“Cold, tired, and a bit stressed, but so uplifted by the positive attitudes of all the players and staff who have already made it to ‪#‎GPDFW‬, and so completely in awe of the great lengths so many more are going to in order to get here. To sleep now, but can’t wait to see our staff and head judge tomorrow who have all gone to extreme measures to be here by tomorrow. Love you guys!”

We are overwhelmed by the positive energy everyone is bringing and grateful to the players for sticking through this rough storm with us.  Roads will still be icy through the night and tomorrow so remember if you are driving, leave LOTS of extra time. Go as slow as you feel you need to. and get here in one piece please!  We can refund your entry, and while we all agree that GPs are awesome experiences, there will be another one to attend, and it’s not worth risking injury or worse to be here!

Registration is open on site until 12pm tonight (central time) there is NO registration on site tomorrow am, so if you ARE planning on coming, please register online. If you are unsure, REGISTER I can easily refund you if you don’t make it!  if you DO register and decide you can’t make it, follow these instructions for a cancellation and refund.

What to do if you want (or need) to cancel:

Please reply to your preregistration confirmation email from the preregistration site asking to cancel.  If you are going to cancel on your event, please do so before 8:30am on Saturday the 7th. I will process refunds as I am able.  Please do not cancel if you are not 100% sure you are going to skip the event.  If you have asked for a refund and do not see the refund by Wednesday Dec 11, please contact me for a follow up, I am going to be processing dozens of cancellations which are coming in through all sorts of methods and styles and it’s possible I could miss one! Help me by sending the registration email with a “please cancel” in the body.

Weather update from GP DFW 6pm, Dec 5

It’s finally started that freezing rain they’ve promised us here in Fort Worth. It’s a few hours behind schedule at this point, so hopefully the storm isn’t as big as they expected and it gets over faster too!

Weather.com still shows that it will end by about 1pm tomorrow (Friday). We fully expect the roads to be in decent traveling condition in the greater DFW area by mid afternoon Friday. Then no more precipitation is expected through Saturday at least. The GP will be running as long as we have power, and the chances of losing power downtown are much less than the outer lying areas that depend on power lines which are not buried as they are here. I’ve looked at a few of the larger cities within 6-8 hours and most seem to be set to be done with the precipitation by early afternoon.  I highly encourage waiting to make the decision to cancel until your drive window is on you. A lot can change in 24-36 hours!

Thanks!

Still hoping to see most of you in Ft Worth!

GP DFW updates: weather, VIP

VIP registrations are sold out. I capped these at 50 to make sure it truly is a great VIP experience, and these registratyions are sold out.  Still want to get a VIP entry?  there is a VIP sealed event on friday evening where you and a friend will win a regular VIP package PLUS the 2 of you (not all VIPs, just YOU and a friend) will join the artists, head judge, LSV and me at supper at the capital grille steakhouse!

Weather update. The weather is firming up the closer we get to the weekend and the current hourly predictions from weather.com show the freezing rain slacking off by friday early afternoon and staying clear through saturday.  We’ll keep you up to date, but so far it’s looking pretty good, just cold, for the GP weekend it’s self. the weather SHOULD be cleared up and moved on by friday afternoon.

Again, you can wait until as late as 8:30am saturday morning to let us know you arent coming if you preregsitered and we’ll pull you from the event, and refund your online prepayment.

Not so scary right now!

Steve

GP DFW, the weather and YOU!

I’ve been getting lots of calls over the last day asking whether we will cancel the GP due to possible inclement weather coming into the DFW on the back of Winter Storm Cleo.

The answer is no.

I am here, the hall is rented/paid for, we’re doin this!  Please check back here for up to the minute details, including delays (if any).

We’d love to have you here, But your safety is more important than Magic! (I know! shocking!) so if you determine that the roads are too bad for you, please stay home.   Refunds can be sent if you preregsitered. If you have preregistered and DO decide to cancel. Please email me BEFORE 8:30 am central time on Saturday morning the 7th so that we can take you out of the pairings for round 1. Refunds will be processed as I am able to over the weekend.

Stay Safe, Stay Warm, we still hope to see you in DFW!

You’ll also get a swag bag with snacks, a deckbox and sleeves and a water bottle to use through out the weekend. the VIP room is yours to use Friday through Sunday to relax and get out of the noise of the GP Hall.

Remember that registration is available until midnight on Friday night, OR on site between 2 and 7pm.

The first 700 players on site on friday will get the GP DFW “Gift of Immortality” Playmat. First come first served, the only way to reserve your mat is with VIP service!

PlayMat_MTG_GP_Dallas_final

Dont forget about our flagship side event Friday night where you can win a spot at the VIP dinner as WELL as a VIP registration for both you and a friend (If you registered already, we’ll refund the level at which you registered). The VIP dinner is Saturday night after the main event and guests are Pro Tour  Hall of Famer Luis Scott-Vargas, Level 5 (and our head) Judge Jason Lemahieu, plus RK Post, Clint Cearly and Chuck Lukacs plus you and a friend!

Weather

Please note that the national weather service is predicting some possible inclement weather in the Fort Worth area this weekend. we’ll keep an eye and post updates if the weather looks to turn either way. right now there is possible rain/sleet and road conditions could be dangerous.  At this time it appears that Saturdays weather will be significantly better than Friday (less chance of precipitation). Please use your best judgement in making your trip, allow extra time for driving. We’d love to see you all at DFW, but more importantly, we want you safe!
