Plainswalker points: 2x + Qualification for Invitational or 5x?

Hey Magic players! It has come to my attention that the Premium level qualifiers (such as the star city games open IQs) that I had planned on running as sides at GP Austin to replace the PTQ that wont be made available to me will retain their 2x multiplier… despite being sides at the GP, the 2x for premium series Qualifiers stays intact.

So the question is this. Assuming I run a tournament with some prize money on it (lets say $2000 to start)… which is better:

option a) an invitational event that lands you an invitation to a larger event down the road (either TCG player or SCG) with a 2x multiplier

or

option b) a “normal” event that does not run an invite, pays same cash prize but gives 5x multiplier.

I am running this post over to legion events’ facebook page where I will create 2 comments. please like the one you would vote for. a fairly informal poll, but I’d like to get some data so I can provide the best thing for the players!

(if any of my friends down in texas promoting this to their southern friends who may attend the GP could push this out to their friends, I would greatly appreciate it!)

Vote away, and thanks in advance for your help!

Grand Prix Austin Playmat!

I promised a super cool playmat for Austin… and oh man is it sweet. RK post did the “Rosie Angel” art as a piece for Legion Supplies and it’s being made into sleeves and deckboxes that should be on shelves at your favorite game stores by late november. I thought it was a perfect fit for the “keep austin weird” theme, so Neal and I hammered out a design that uses this awesome art, the flavor of Texas AND gives you plenty of space to customize. RK WILL be on site to add his awesome doodles to your mat, he’ll be there Friday afternoon, working like a slave all weekend and is sure to get some backlog, so make sure you get it to him early!

I’ll have a limited number of the deckbox and sleeves on site for sale as well!

Whew… it’s quiet in here, and bad news for prereleases

whoa, a month since the last update, that’s no bueno.

Too bad I’m coming back with bad news. WotC has disallowed drafts at prereleases, this is apparently not new news, but since the elimination of regional prereleases, I have been out of the loop on the details. I apologize that my info pages listed drafts, I only post the stuff here and not only on store sites because you’re all used to finding the info here, and I JUST found out today that info is wrong.

so sealed events only. no drafts. ALSO, due to a restriction down to 4 events only, we have to cancel 2HG on sunday afternoon. 2HG sunday afternoon is cancelled.

on the bright side of things GP Austin is taking shape, venue contract is in, vendors are lined up, hotel booking is squared… now if only i knew what format we’re going to be running! I promise you, if I knew I would tell you, I’ve been asking and asking what my format will be and keep being told “we’ll get that for you soon”. Soon as I know, YOU’LL know!

Have fun prereleasing (yeah I just verbed that) and dont forget states coming up Oct 15th, and a PTQ in Madison + a YGO Regionals in Minneapolis on halloween weekend! (Oct 29th).

RK Post is joining us at GP Austin

In the vein of “Keeping Austin Weird“, I’m bringing one of the strangest people I know to Austin… RK Post! We’ll be doign a promo playmat featuring RKs art (with a modification on a great new piece he did for some new Legion Supplies deckboxes and sleeves). We’ll get that image worked up and posted as soon as we can!

RK claims to have “Nevah been to Texas.” I can’t think of a better place to introduce him to Texas than Austin!

Legion Events, first out of the box in 2012

Wotc Announced the location of PT#1 in 2012 plus new information on the first wave of Grand Prix to hit next year.

I’m proud to announce that Legion Events has been chosen to host the first Grand Prix of the expanded 2012 season in Austin, Texas! We’re a bare 3 months from the event, and a lot of work to get done before it gets here, so Check back for updated info as I’m able to complete and broadcast it!

(and before you ask; nope, I don’t know anything about the variable prize payout either. That was as much news to me in that announcement as it was to you!)

Google is wrong! Legion games location info

When you type in the address for legion games into google (or mapquest, far as I know) it sends you to Hwy 13 near cedar (Hwy77). that’s wrong. please use the city of “Savage” instyead of burnsville and it will bring you to the right place. we *are* in burnsville but are right on the border to savage and for some reason google doesnt believe we’re in Burnsville so it thinks you MUST be talking about something else.

here’s a google map link with the store pointed on it

Happy M12ing!

Thanks to all for coming out to Grand Prix Kansas City, we had a great time and had a lot of success with our new technology!

Supplies news: Custom RK Post art coming!

Neal cooked up this great idea for a new set of sleeves which we’re about to go into production on. We should have them in the fall of 2011. We’re doing an Angel, Rosie the riveter style. RK Post was the guy we thought of to bring this idea to life, and he signed on with a “hell yeah!”. We have our initial sketch back, and it looks dynamite. RK will be selling first shot prints of Angel Rosie at San Diego Comic Con, go see him and get yours!
